Gayle on Fire, Bangalore beat Mumbai in a Thriller
Royal Challengers Bangalore made a winning start in the IPL 6 beating Mumbai Indians by two runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. Vinay
Kumar bowled brilliantly in the last over to win the match. He gave away only 7 runs also dismissing half-centurion Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu.
However, RCB’s victory could not have been possible without Chris Gayle, who was the man of the match for his unbeaten knock of 92 off 58 balls. The rest of the players managed to score 48 off 62 balls. Total was 156/5 in 20.0 over for RCB.
Mumbai’s Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting opened the innings chasing the target 157. They yielded 52 runs in 7.3 overs in partnership. However, the score was neither dominating, nor they were able to take the match forward. Sachin was out in 23, which was the first fall of wicket and Ponting was stumped off Murali Kartik. Later Rohit Sharma was bowled by Vinay.
RCB led by Virat Kohli struggled to get going in the middle overs as the run rate was increased. Christian gave away 24 runs in the 17 overs. Dinesh Karthik scored his 50. Vinay Kumar bowled the crucial last over as he snapped up two quick wickets. He held his nerve as Pollard managed just five runs in two balls and Bangalore achieved victory by two runs for the first time over Mumbai at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
