Congress woos DMK with Support to Kanimozhi
It is believed that that morality takes a heavy beating when politics play its part. The same happened in Tamil Nadu when the Congress Party extended its support to 2G-tainted Kanimozhhi in her bid for a second Rajya Sabha term with the hope that it can woo the DMK back to the UPA fold whenever needed in future.
Both DMK and Congress had an acrimonious divorce earlier this year. The DMK Ministers had pulled out of the UPA-II government. However, the Congress is unfazed. The party still sees DMK as an potential ally, as it wants a third term at the Centre.
All five Congress MLAs in Tamil Nadu will support Kanimozhi, the daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. With this, Kanimozhi will have the support of 32 MLAs. The AIADMK and Left can win 5 out of 6 seats on their own.
The sixth candidate will need 34 MLAs to win. But, whoever wins the maximum MLAs, will be declared the winner. Kanimozhi’s rival and DMDK leader Vijayakanth has only 22 MLAs. So, unless there is heavy cross-voting against Kanimozhi, she will be a clear winner.
