AIBA suspends Indian Amateur Boxing Federation
TNI Bureau: Just three days after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for allowing government intervention, the Indian sports lovers received another jolt, as the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) suspended the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF).
The AIBA took the decision to suspend Indian Boxing Federation on the basis of allegations of manipulation and irregularities in the election process.
The Indian Boxing Federation was being ruled by Abhay Singh Chautala for years. He was recently elected as the President of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) despite the objections from the IOC.
IABF’s suspension is provisional. The AIBA will now investigate the possible political link between the elections at IOA and IABF and take a final decision on the basis of that probe. But, the Indian Boxers won’t get a chance to participate in international events till the probe is over.
