Advani’s Remarks create Storm in Lok Sabha
TNI Bureau: BJP veteran LK Advani goofed up during an important debate in Lok Sabha today by some “out of place” remarks, which diverted the attention from the main issue and put BJP in the dock.
While talking about the illegal immigrants’ menace in Assam and targeting the government on the communal violence in the state, Advani called the UPA II government “illegitimate”, which prompted Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the entire treasury benches to lodge protests.
Advani and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj later clarified that the remarks were made in the context of 2008 trust vote and they were meant for the UPA I government. At the behest of some top leaders, including Speaker Meira Kumar, Advani withdrew his comment and the House was allowed to run at 2 PM after a brief adjournment.
