Owaisi sent to 14-day Judicial Custody for Hate Speech
TNI Bureau: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is booked for allegedly delivering hate speech against a particular community, was sent to 14-day judicial custody following his arrest on Tuesday. His supporters attacked media vans out of anger and protested his arrest.
Owaisi was questioned and produced before the magistrate at 5:30 am a day after his medical report was out that shows that he has hernia, bullet injury and he was weak even unable to walk for long time.
The magistrate sent the MLA to judicial custody for 14 days and also asked the police to produce him before the court today. He was charged for criminal conspiracy and intent to incite violence. He was taken to the Nirmal town police station. Police have been deployed across the town to avoid possible violence. Even some leaders of MIM and BJP have been arrested as a precautionary measure. The security forces have also been deployed in Hyderabad to control the clashes if it takes place.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High is expected to admit his petition today in which he has requested a stay order on his arrest.
His arrest sparked outrage among his supporters. They attacked media vehicles in Adilabad when he was sent to judicial custody after he was arrested by the police following his medical test.
The police action came after Owaisi’s alleged remarks against the majority community sparked widespread protests by the BJP and its frontal groups across the state. He faced strong criticism after he delivered inflammatory remarks at a public meeting on December 22.
