Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis wins Trust Vote
As expected, the BJP Government in Maharashtra led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis (44) won the trust vote on the floor of the Assembly by a voice vote. Shiv Sena, which opposed the trust vote, was left stranded and isolated, as newly-elected Speaker Haribhau Bagde gave the verdict in BJP’s favour.
The NCP MLAs did not act and remained silent during the trust vote. They neither supported nor opposed, marking their abstention. The Shiv Sena MLAs shouted against the government, but their voice was drowned in the joy and celebration of BJP MLAs. The Congress too opposed the trust vote. Apart from 121 MLAs, the BJP also secured support of seven Independent MLAs, MNS and some other smaller outfits. The Shiv Sena has decided to sit in the Opposition following the latest development.
Earlier, BJP leader Haribhau Bagde was elected as the Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly unopposed after Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Avti and Congress candidate Varsha Gaikwad pulled out of the race.
