Samuels’ Ton goes in Vain, India win 4th ODI and Series
Marlon Samuels hit his second hundred of this ODI series, but India defeated the West Indies by 59 runs in the 4th ODI to win the series 2-1. The third ODI in Vizag was abandoned due to Cyclone Hudhud. The fifth and last ODI can’t be played now, as West Indies players revolted and decided to quit India over payment issue with their Board.
Earlier, India posted a mammoth total of 330/6 in 50 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli’s 127 – his 20th ODI hundred and Ajinkya Rahane’s 68. Suresh Raina scored 71, while Dhawan made 35. The West Indies played resorted wayward bowling and fielding and dropped many easy catches to allow India score at a good pace.
Chasing the victory target of 331, West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only two partnerships caused some scares in the Indian camp, but that was not enough to win the match. Eventually, they perished at 271 in 48.1 overs. Samuels scored 112, followed by Andre Russell (46) and Darren Bravo (40). For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Shami, Akshar Patel and Jadeja took two wickets each. Virat Kohli was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
