Musharraf faces Arrest, flees Court
In a major blow to former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s political ambitions, the Islamabad High Court cancelled his bail and ordered his arrest, following which he fled the court with the help of army commandos. There was high drama outside the court, as Musharraf and his aides were almost running to evade a possible arrest.
Later, Musharraf’s spokesperson claimed that the former military ruler is on transitory bail till tomorrow. However, the Pak media reports say that he could be arrested shortly. Musharraf is currently holed up inside his farm house. He is likely to request the court to put him under house arrest in the farm house because of threat to his life.
The Islamabad HC ordered Musharraf’s arrest in connection with the judges’ illegal detention by his government when he was in power in 2007. Earlier, his nomination papers in all four constituencies were rejected by a court tribunal.
