Sachin Tendulkar gets Order of Australia

TNI Bureau: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was conferred with the membership of Order of Australia. It is another honour for India’s batting legend, who is now the Rajya Sabha MP. He is the second Indian after former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee to get the honour.

Sachin, who is regarded as the Cricket God, received the award from Simon Crean, Australia’s Minister for the Arts and Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government in the Australian Federal Government, in Mumbai.

The Order of Australia was announced by Australian Prime Minister Julian Gillard during her visit to India on October 16.

The ‘Order of Australia’ is conferred to honour the personalities for their achievement in their fields or for meritorious service. The 39-year-old Tendulkar will be awarded for his contribution to cricket.

Earlier, Sorabjee was conferred with the membership of Order of Australia for service to Australia-India bilateral legal relations in 2006.
