Oprah Winfrey: Lance Armstrong admits to Doping
TNI Bureau: Former road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong finally admitted to doping in each of his seven Tour de France title he had won. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, he revealed the truth.
However, Armstrong did not name anyone. He said that he might not have been caught if he would not have made his comeback in 2009. “I know the truth. The truth isn’t what was out there; the truth isn’t what I said. This story was so perfect for so long. You overcome the disease,
you win the Tour de France seven times, you have a happy marriage, and you have children. I mean, it’s just this mythic, perfect story. And it wasn’t true”, he said.
He also admitted that the confession was too late. He said that it was his mistake for taking wrong decisions. “I am here today to say I’m sorry for that”, he added.
He revealed that he could not have won any Tour de France without doping. He was stripped of his 2000 Olympic bronze medal by the International Olympic Committee hours before the interview with Oprah.
He revealed he had lied about repeatedly for years. “I went and looked up the definition of cheat,” he added. “And the definition is to gain an advantage on a rival or foe. I didn’t view it that way. I viewed it as a level playing field”, he said.
He admitted to using blood doping transfusions and testosterone: “My cocktail, so to speak, was only EPO, but not a lot, and testosterone and blood transfusions.”
