CA sentenced to Life for Plane Hijack Scare in 2009
TNI Bureau: A chartered accountant was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Delhi for triggering a hijack scare on the Goa-Delhi Indigo flight in February 2009. Jitender Kumar Mohla was convicted under section 3(1)(d) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act of 1982.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on him.
Mohla had triggered panic on February 1, 2009 by claiming that he had hijacked the plane. He had entered into the cockpit and threatened the crew members that he had infected infected needles to infect others if he was resisted. Even he had claimed that he was one of the accused in the Kandahar hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane.
