Building collapses in Dhaka, 80 Dead
At least 80 were killed and 700 were injured when an eight-storey commercial building collapsed on the outskirts of Dhaka in Bangladesh today. The death toll may rise further as the rescue operations are still on.
The building, Rana Plaza that housed several garments factories, a bank branch, and 300 shops, collapsed in Savar. Around 6000 workers used to work in the factories located in the building.
The injured were taken to the Enam Medical College. Director of the Industrial Police Mostafizur Rahman held the garment factory owners responsible for the collapse tragedy. He said that the owners were operating their units ignoring the cracks in the ill-fated building.
