‘Kai Po Che’ is an emotional saga of three friends, where emotion has been brilliantly given away without the regular Bollywood sequences to express emotion. Director of ‘Rock on’ Abhishek Kapoor has left no stone unturned to offer an outstanding presentation of the famous novel of Chetan Bhagat, ‘Three Mistakes of my Life’.
Like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ or ‘3 idiots’, in ‘Kai po che’ too there are three friends named Ishan (Sushant Singh Rajput, ‘Pavitra Rista’ fame), Omi (Amit Sadh) and Govind (Raj Kumar Yadav). They are trying to make a mark in the India of the early 2000s in Ahmadabad of Gujarat.
Govind can be accounted as a pure businessman character, happy to count money. Ishaan is the guy, who is an ardent fan of cricket and dreams big for the sport and Omi is the nephew of a busy political leader of a right wing Hindu party.
They want to open a cricket coaching centre, where they might actually create the future Cricket star for the country. Ishaan finds huge cricket potential in a 12-year-old boy named Ali Hashmi and takes the promising young sportsman under his wings to make him a cricket star. He coaches the boy with utmost care to make his, as well as the boy’s dream, come true.
But in the meanwhile the story takes a big turn when in 2001 Gujarat moves through the earthquake and then through the 2002 post-Godhra riots, which ultimately hits hard on the deep friendship of the three friends.
Ishaan takes a stand in support of Ali and his community, while Omi becomes furious with anger over the death of his parents in the riots. Things go on and the three friends live their own live but finally return to their virgin friendship at the end.
The film is about achieving our dreams despite the odds faced in life and also celebrates friendship. It is not that the three friends do not fight among themselves, they do, but finally it ends with an emotional approach.

Director Kapoor skillfully captures the details of deep heartily relations between the three protagonists, some thrilling cricket moments, earthquakes scenes and the outcome.
Kudos to the director, who captures the complex scenes in an easy and gripping manner as it is very difficult to stay normal while handling violence of this nature.
Asset of the film is the acting aptitude of all the four leading characters including a woman, Amrita Puri. Puri is very much enjoyable as Vidya, Ishaan’s sister and Govind’s love interest. And good news is that taking a fresh band of actors Kapoor has successfully depicted the story.
Amit Trivedi has created great music for the film and most accountable factor is that it goes well with the script and never takes you out of the main point.
The decision of shooting the film extensively in the backdrop of Gujarat has also worked well. No foreign location, no skin show, no masala and no big named celebrities, till the film reaches to the zenith, which is the most applauded factor.
Verdict – Don’t miss the film to know what is called friendship in real sense.
