Strike halts Normal Life in Balangir
By Himansu Guru: The Congress Party in Balangir successfully called for a dawn to dusk strike today. The strike was meant for the demand to pin down the ever growing crimes in the district.
Only few years before, Balangir was a peaceful place to live. However, within a couple of years a number of crimes have been reported. While the dreadful crimes like contract killing for tender fixation happened in the last one or two years, there are other instances of heinous crimes like rape, murder and abductions have been rising in the district.
In this scenario, talking to ‘The News Insight’, Balangir District Congress Committee Vice President Manish Mishra said, “Balangir has turned into a crime hub. One can very well learn it from the unfortunate events like – the rape took place in Titilagarh, the serial robbery took place in Kantabanji and most recently the double murder that took place in Chandanbhati. We are shocked to know that people from BJD are alleged to be involved in all of these crimes. Besides this, a number of horrendous crimes have been reported in the district in the last few months. We have called for the strike in a demand to rip off all these crimes.”
On the other hand, Abhi Sahu of BJD from Titilagarh said to ‘The News Insight’, “What the congress people are saying about the involvement of BJD workers in the crimes is baseless. Perhaps they mean the alleged involvement of one Jayaprakash Pati in the Chandanbhati double murder case, but he is not even a Primary member of BJD. And regarding the Titilagarh rape case, while our BJD people like Yamuna Padhi, Titilagarh block Chairman and others are demanding stringent actions against the wrongdoers (in this case), how come you allege the involvements of BJD people?”
However, the strike in Balangir ceased normal life in the town till 6 P.M. in the evening. While vehicular movement was utterly stopped, schools, colleges, offices, business houses and shops were also closed during the strike.
