Odisha Govt seeks Rs 4,242 Crore from Centre
The Odisha Government has sought an assistance of Rs 4,242 crore to deal with the devastation caused by Cyclone Phailin and floods aftermath. That includes the demand of Rs 1,048 crore by the Energy department. The Panchyatiraj department has sought Rs 855 crore.
Earlier last week, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had demanded Rs 1,523 crore from the Centre (Rs 1,000 crore over and above the corpus of Rs 523 crore available in the State Disaster Response Fund for 2013-14).
The relief and rehabilitation work is going on in full swing in all cyclone and flood-affected areas. Ganjam is the worst-affected region and it will take weeks to bring back normalcy in that district. Special Relief Commissioner Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra has said that the relief operation will continue till October 22 and may be extended depending upon the situation.
