Nila Madhab Panda’s ‘Jalpari’ makes Direct Entry to Oscars
TNI Bureau: The director from Odisha will now find a place in international film awards as “Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid” directed by Nila Madhab Panda has been selected for a direct entry to the prestigious Oscars. The film is based on the issue of female foeticide that dragged the attention of international selecting committees.
Jalpari has already made its entry in international film festivals by winning the MIP Junior Kids Jury Award at Cannes and receiving the Audience Choice Award in Minsk International Film Festival in Belarus.
The theme of the film is eye-catchy that the NGOs and government have been campaigning against. Nila Madhab Panda’s “I Am Kalam”, which has won many national and international awards, is now looking forward to get some awards in Oscars.
Besides, the movie has also been nominated at the prestigious Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), which is scheduled to be held on Nov 23 at Queensland, Australia.
Jalpari finally made an entry in the foreign film category competing against 17 Indian films this year. The strong storyline with powerful performance by Lehar Khan, Parvin Dabas, Harsh Mayar, Krishang Trivedi, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Rahul Singh, Suhasini Mulay and V.M. Badola are the key reason that found a place in the foreign film category for Oscar.
“Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid” was released on August 31, 2012.
