TNI Bureau: In a sensational development this morning, 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged to death at 7:30 AM today. The hanging took place at Pune’s Yerawada Jail. The doctors have declared Kasab dead. Later, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil confirmed the news.
Kasab’s mercy petition was recently rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on the advice of the Union Home Ministry. The government decided to hang him with immediate effect without wasting time further.

The entire development was kept secret. The death warrant was issued yesterday without intimation to media and public. Kasab was brought to Yerawada Jail two days ago while Maharashtra was busy in mourning Bal Thackeray’s death. The plan was executed successfully. The government exercised utmost caution not to create any sensation in the country. Interestingly, Kasab had no last wish or will.
Kasab was the lone surviving terrorist of the terrorist attacks of November 26, 2008 in Mumbai, which left 166 dead and hundreds injured. He was a resident of Faridkot, Okara, Punjab, Pakistan. Since Pakistan has refused to accept Kasab’s body, he was given a burial inside the Yerawada Jail. Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan confirmed this news.
