Convergence Meeting on ‘Beti Bachao beti Padhao’
To address the declining Child Sex Ratio through a mass campaign across the country, ‘Beti Bachao beti Padhao(BBBP)’ has been launched in Nayagarh District since January, 2015.
The main objectives of the scheme are to prevent gender biased sex selective elimination, to ensure survival and protection of the girl child, to ensure education and participation of the girl child. The overall goal of the scheme is to celebrate the girl child and enable her education.
Focused intervention and multi sectoral action are the important component of the scheme. In order to bring about multisectoral action in a convergent manner the State level convergence meeting on BBBP was held on Thursday at Pantha Niwas, Bhubaneswar under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner-cum Addl. Chief Secretary R. Balkrishnan. Representatives of various stakeholders like Health & Family Welfare, Home, Panchayatiraj, School and Mass Education, labour and ESI, UN Agencies participated in the said meeting and provided valuable inputs to bring about multisectoral coordination for effective implementation of the scheme. A detailed District Action Plan and State Action Plan have been worked out to successfully implement the BBBP scheme.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Women & child Development Department and Director, Social Welfare addressed the meeting and urged the participants as well as all concerned to work in a synchronized manner to
improve the child sex ratio in the district as well as the state and celebrate the value of a girl child.
