BJD wins 15 out of 20 ULBs in Western Odisha
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has won 15 ULBs out of 20 NACs and Municipalites that went to polls yesterday. Eventually, it could win 17 or 18 with the support of others. The Congress and BJP managed to win just one each. On the other hand, mixed results were reported in two ULBs – Kesinga and Khariar.
The BJD won Tarbha, Bargarh, Binika, Biramitrapur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Junagarh, Kantabanji, Khariar Road, Kunchinda, Padampur, Brajarajnagar, Bhawanipatna and Sonepur. The Congress won in Barpali, while the BJP won a face-saver in Patnagarh NAC. The BJD is just one short of the majority in Rajgangpur.
In Kesinga, the BJP (4) and BJD (3) may join hands to secure the NAC. The Congress has won 5 wards in the 12-member NAC. In Khariar, the BJD and Congress are tied at 6 each. The lone Independent candidate will hold the key to power here.
Out of 306 wards in 20 ULBs across nine districts in Western Odisha, the BJD won 197 wards. The Congress could win just 56 wards, while the BJP managed to win 35. Others won 18 wards.
