A lethal bowling by speedster Basant Mohanty, helped Odisha register their first victory in Ranji Trophy 2013-14, as they defeated Jharkhand by nine wickets. Mohanty, who had taken 5 wickets in the first innings, added another 6 wickets to his kitty to finish at the match figure 11 wickets.

Jharkhand had scored 221 in the first innings. In reply, Odisha scored 307. Bikash Pati scored 94, while Biplab Samantray made 67. Niranjan Behera scored 39. Jharkhand bowled out for 194. Basant Mohanty took six wickets, while Alok Sahoo took all four wickets fell this morning.

Odisha needed just 109 runs to win the match, which it achieved by losing just one wicket. Opener Girija Rout remained unbeaten on 67. Odisha gained six points by the virtue of this win. Earlier, Odisha had earned three points against Vidarbha on the basis of first innings lead. The team had lost the first match of this season against Punjab.
