Berhampur Road to be named after Saheed Laxman Nayak
Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) of Odisha has decided to name a road in Berhampur city after freedom fighter Saheed Laxman Nayak.
Laxman Nayak played a prominent role in organizing people against the British rule in southern part of Odisha. He was hanged till death on March 29, 1943 in Berhampur circle Jail by the British government during the Quit India Movement.
The road to be named after this tribal martyr connects Kamapalli square with the NH 5 (Kolkata-Chennai National Highway) which passes by in the heart of the city.
The Berhampur circle jail is also located by the side of this road. The decision to name this road after Saheed Laxman Nayak was taken at the BMC meeting that held recently to discuss its annual budget.
