‘Barfi’ becomes ‘Pepsi’ in ‘Besharam’
Ranbir Kapoor, who garnered huge publicity as well as critical acclaimation for his role as ‘Barfi’ in the Anurag Basu’s film about the love story of a deaf and dumb boy and an autistic girl, will be called ‘Pepsi’ in the under production film ‘Besharam’. One can see that most of his recent onscreen characters seem to have quirky names like Raj Kapoor, his grandfather.
One may not accept this fact, but name of a film and the names of its pivotal characters decides for huge crowd pulling to a film. Recall the very famous name ‘Gabbar Singh’, name of the baddie of cult film ‘Sholay’, had brought huge publicity to the film. Other names like ‘Ghazni’, ‘Mr. India’, ‘Barfi’, ‘Satya’, ‘Henna’ were the name of the characters and the films earned huge hype from the names of these characters.
And when it comes to Kapoor dynasty, the first family of Indian Kapoors in last some decades, Raj kapoor had also garnered huge popularity for the odd screen names, that he was getting in his differen films like – ‘Awara’, ‘ Anari’, ‘Mera Naam Joker’, ‘Chhalia’ etc. Now his grandson Ranbir Kapoor is getting praised for his odd screen names and he is also executing all those roles wonderfully.
Interestingly, while Ranbir’s onscreen name in the Abhinav Kashyap’s film is Pepsi, in real life he also endorses the cola brand of the same name. But Ranbir is quiet comfortable with these names as he feels that he is a director’s actor.
Ranbir is happy that the audience relates to his screen names well. After Barfi, the audience used to call him by his screen name.
