Student dies in Road mishap at Rourkela
Rourkela (By Aurobinda Das): A college going student died when a LPG cylinder-laden truck crushed him at Panposh Chowk under Raghunathpalli Police Station while he was on his way to college Tuesday morning. Police has seized the truck (OR-02P – 4188) and arrested its driver.
Abhishek Badaik (18), a +2 Science student of Rourkela Municipal College, was on his way to college, when a Bharat Gas cylinder loaded truck hit him. He died on the spot. Soon after the incident, the irate locals rushed to the spot and blocked the Panposh-Uditnagar main road for about three hours, demanding adequate compensation to the deceased family.
Following the intervention from the police and local administration, a tripartite negotiation was held between administration, police and public and the road blockade was withdrawn. The ADM, Rourkela immediately released Rs 20000 from Red Cross Fund with a written assurance of further assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The police authority also assured to give a job to the younger brother of the deceased once he attains the age of 18. The police also assured the public to make arrangement of road checkers in Panposh chowk to avoid further accident.
On the other hand, the Rourkela Municipal College mourned the death of Abhishek. Principal J.K.Rao termed the young lad as a sincere and hard working student and condoled his sudden demise.
