SRC-Rayagada launches Saakshar Bharat Program
State Resource Centre for Adult and Continuing Education (SRC), Rayagada launched Saakshar Bharat Program at Baligaon of Baipariguda block in Koraput district. This village was selected under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana initiated by local MP Sri Balabhadra Majhi.
On his inaugural speech Mr. Majhi, Honourble Member of Parliament of Nabarangpur stressed the importance of literacy in undivided Koraput district, where the literacy rate was completely abysmal. Being in poverty the tribals are to be empowered with minimum level of learning. They have to take benefit of various programs initiated by the state government. Until and unless the people know about these schemes they may continue to be exploited. Sighting the example of Mizoram, which is also a tribal dominated state, he said that the present literacy rate is rising very fast.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Gadadhar Parida, retired administrator opined on the causes of poverty due to low literacy. Being landless or having small quantity of land that cannot serve the family for at least minimum livelihood, the tribals must be ensured their legal rights to reach at their optimum level of living standard.
Mr. Achyut Das, Chairman of SRC and Director of Agragamee stressed on eradication of liquor to bring quality development and quality life. Dr. Chandan Singh narrated detail objectives of SRC, Rayagada on Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana and the role it would play on adult literacy. The local women tied Rakhya Bandhan to the guests with a promise to join the literacy movement initiated by the SRC.
