Odia girl Swagatika named in National Cricket Team
Odisha’s Swagatika Rath has been named to represent Indian women cricket team to play T-20 and ODI matches against the visiting Bagladesh, which will be played in Boroda and Ahmedabad from March 31 to April 12.
Swagatika hails from Jashatikri village of Bhadrak district.
Getting inspiration from her uncle Gyanachand Das, Swagtika started playing competitive cricket in the year 2007. She has been representing Odisha women’s team in List-A matches and East Zone women’s team from 2011-12.
However, the 19-year-old all-rounder came to the limelight when she scored 53 and took 2 wickets to help Odisha’s historic win against Pakistan on the eve of women world cup.
Swagatika, representing East zone, was adjudged the player of the series on Tuesday for her marvelous all-round performance in Under 19 inter-zonal T-20 tournament.
Besides Madhuri Mehta and Rasanara Parwin, Swagatika is the third woman from Odisha to represent national cricket team.
