Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to inaugurate National Consumer Day Celebrations on Dec 22
The Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India is celebrating the National Consumer Day 2015 with the theme “Safe & Healthy Food: Combating Food Adulteration.” on 22nd December, 2015 in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The programme will be inaugurated and presided over by Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. While Justice D.K. Jain, President, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), New Delhi will deliver the key note address, Shri Ashish Bahuguna, Chairman, Food Safety Standards Authority of India will deliver the theme address.
The National Consumer Rights Day is an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity within the national consumer movement and is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers.
In view of increasing reports of food adulteration there is a need to build the capacity of the consumers as well as the community to fight this menace. Educating the consumers about food safety and hygiene, food adulteration and the way to detect food adulteration is the best way to protect them.
On the occasion the Department had organized a poster making competition among school children on the theme consumer awareness. Cash prizes will be given to the prize winning six school children. In addition, some publications useful to the consumers will be released. Importantly, two podcasts on food safety are being launched which will have sign language interpretation.
