Flood Situation worsens in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi
Over 15,000 people have been badly affected, as flash floods triggered by heavy rains, created havoc in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Koraput districts in Odisha. The Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur district has been worst hit. Some of the places in those districts recorded 400 mm rain on Sunday.
At least 12 villages, including 4 in Chandahandi block, have been submerged in flood water. At least one person died, while many others are still missing. Over 200 houses were damaged by the floods. Road connectivity has been disrupted too.
Mohara, Sinapali, Junapani, Jamadarpada, Patakhalia and Semelaguda in Chandahandi and Kalahandi areas have been worst-hit. The Jharigaon-Chandahandi road has been damaged beyond repair, cutting the Chandahandi block off from Nabarangpur district. The district collectors have been directed to monitor the rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.
