R. Kumar makes a significant mark at World Book Fair 2013

By Aurobinda Das: The DGM (PR) & Chief of Communications at Rourkela Steel Plant, Ramendra Kumar made a significant mark at the World Book Fair, held in New Delhi from 4- 10 February, 2013.

One of his books titled “Boond” was released by Mr. Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE, during the inaugural function on 4 February. Later two more books – “The Royal Sweeper and “We’re Different” were also launched. The three books have been published by National Book Trust (NBT), India.

On 4thFebruary, Mr. Kumar chaired a panel discussion on the Theme “Role of Parents in Promotion of Pleasure Reading.”   The next day he was invited to lead a participative session of writers and illustrators with Mr. A. Sethumadhavan, Chairman, NBT.

On 6 February he participated in the “Meet the Author” programme. The highlight of this interaction was storytelling and experience sharing by the author peppered with queries from the young and vibrant minds on the various aspects of his creativity. During the Book Fair all of Mr. Kumar’s books were put on display. These included 20 books in English, 13 translations in Indian Languages and 6 in foreign ones. It is noteworthy that he is the only children’s writer from Odisha whose work was showcased at the World Book Fair.

Mr. Kumar is a national award winning writer, story teller and motivational speaker. His stories have found a place in text books both in India and abroad as well as in national and international anthologies. Three of his books have made it to the CBSE list of recommended reading for children.
