TNI Bureau: Odisha might be struggling for good rain this year, but diseases like dengue and swine flu continued to spread the wings in the state with more casualties. While 20 died of diarrhea in the tribal district of Nabarangpur, at least two died of dengue in the past eight months.
State health and family welfare minister Damodar Rout confirmed that 44 persons have died of diarrhea so far and two others lost their lives due to dengue in the state.
However, the reason behind the death is the patients reached the hospital very late in critical condition. About 2643 persons were infected in diarrhea from January to August this year and out of those 44 died in the disease.

Out of the 63 persons infected due to dengue, two persons from Dhenkanal district died for not coming to hospital, the minister also said in the Assembly.
Despite the government’s claim of having taken all necessary steps to arrest the spread of dengue and some other diseases, the dreadful diseases have played havoc in the state. Besides dengue and diarrhea, reports also confirm about the emergence of cholera; however, so far no casualty has been recorded out of this water borne disease in the state.
We have alerted doctors and all health workers in the state to remain vigilant to diarrhea, cholera, dengue and malaria with onset of monsoon – the health minister said.
Besides Dengue and Diarrhea Swine Flu has also claimed its presence in the state this monsoon. After a woman tested positive for swine flu in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, the number of H1N1 cases (detected) has enhanced to 2 in Odisha. Probably the second woman might have contracted the disease from the first flu patient as they were admitted to the same intensive care unit (ICU). We can recollect that at least 32 people were died out of Swine Flu in the year 2010 in Odisha.
