Reconstruction Work augmented in Schools in Odisha
TNI Bureau: The Cyclonic storm Phailin has devastated almost all sectors including school infrastructure and has left behind a trail of severe damage and destruction in the coastal & adjoining Districts in Odisha. The Govt. in School & Mass Education Department has proposed for immediate sanction of a total amount of RS.83447.50 lakh towards special assistance on priority basis in order to take up the reconstruction and mitigation activities.
The preliminary survey conducted by the School & Mass Education Department reveals that 5820 nos. of Govt. Schools have been severely devastated and it is not possible for Classes to be held there. Students of 1135 schools have lost their belongings including Text Books, Uniforms etc. Approximately 113500 nos. of students are affected and School & Mass Education Deptt. has proposed for purchase of 113500 sets of Text Books for free supply to the affected students.
A sanction of an amount of RS.28091.25 lakh rupees has been proposed for provision of Additional Class Room, Science Laboratory Equipments, Drinking Water facilities, Toilets and Text Books.
About 4685 Elementary School buildings have been damaged due to this natural calamities and for restoration of the buildings a provision of Rs. 234.25 lakh for 4685 Addl. Class Rooms at the estimated cost of RS.5.0 lakh has been proposed.
In the affected district about 5.60 lakh school going children belonging to families who have been utterly devastated with damaged houses belonging etc. The Deptt. has suggested an additional requirement of about Rs 1100 core for printing and supply of Text Books during the current academic session 2013-14.
The School going children of the affected families have also lost their school uniform and the Department has proposed for a sanction of Rs.11.00 core at the rate of RS.200/- per child for at least one pair of school uniform. A total amount of Rs.25625.00 lakh has been proposed for sanction towards additional class room, text books and school uniform under Sarba Siksha Abhiyan.
Mid-Day-Meal infrastructure has been likewise faced immense damaged due to cyclonic storm. The kitchen-cum-Store and places of common Dining & Kitchen equipments in approximately 4685 nos. of schools have been affected. A total amount of 29281.25 lakh rupees has been proposed by the Department for sanction towards restoration of the MOM infrastructure.
The infrastructure of the different devastated district teacher training institution of the State have also been badly affected due to Cyclone and Flood. For immediate repair and reconstruction of the infrastructure of the Institutes a total amount of Rs.450 lakh rupees has been proposed by the Department.
