Youth Red Cross Volunteers clean Bindusagar
Bhubaneswar 17.11.2013: The Indian Red Cross Society-Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) Youth Red Cross has organised a Cleanliness Drive on the occasion of Kartika Purnima (Boita Bandana) at Bindu Sagar in Bhubaneswar. The objective of organization of the Cleanliness Drive was to establish the values of environmental protection among the young minds of Youth Red Cross Volunteers and the local inhabitants as well as spreading the message of keeping the rivers & other water bodies clean.
It is observed that during Kartik Purnima, we celebrate the festival to remember the past glory of rich ancient marry time trade tradition. Thousands of devotes sailed symbolic toy-like boat in water bodies at Bindu Sagar in Bhubaneswar, there by causing pollution to such water bodies.
The water sources are used for many domestic purposes by the local communities. Youth Red Cross, Odisha has taken the initiative of cleaning the water body near Bindu Sagar. In this programme more than 100 Youth Red Cross Volunteers of Droupadi College of Science and Commerce along with the Youth Red Cross Counsellor, Sri Manoranjan Mishra and staff of Odisha Red Cross participated.
Dr. Mangala Prasad Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society-Odisha State Branch(IRCS-OSB) & Secretary, Youth Red Cross, Odisha stressed that such initiatives of Red Cross, Odisha will not only inspire the young Volunteers of Youth Red Cross but also create awareness for a clean & safe environment among the public. Dr. Sarita Supkar, Youth Red Cross Officer coordinated the programme.
