Seemandhra Impact: Prices Soar in Odisha
The strike and agitations in Seemandhra region against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, have taken a heavy toll on Odisha. As the trucks carrying vegetables, fish and eggs have stopped coming to the state, the prices have gone up significantly in the last two days.
The retailers in Odisha heavily depend on the Andhra market for vegetables, fishes, chicken and eggs. An artificial crisis has already been created in the market ahead of the puja season. Onion prices have gone up to Rs 45 per kg in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, while other vegetables such as Brinjals and Tomatoes are available at Rs 30-50.
Although chicken and egg prices are not affected yet, there is a strong possibility that they will also go up in the next two to three days. And, an impending cyclone may make things difficult for transportation system over the next week. The prawn export via Vizag port, has been badly affected too.
