Rayagada Lady Teacher dies, CM condoles her Death
Ms Itishree Pradhan, the lady teacher at the Upper Primary School at Tikiri in Rayagada, who was set on fire by an unidentified assailant on Sunday, succumbed to her injuries at the Seven Hills Hospital in Vizag this morning.
She had suffered 90% burns after the assailant put kerosene on her and lit the fire. Despite the best possible treatment given by the doctors, her condition worsened in the last two days. The main accused in this case, School Inspector Netrasen Dandasena, was earlier arrested and sent to jail.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has condoled the death of Itishree and announced a ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to her family. The CM has ordered the trial of her murder by a fast track court. A crime branch probe has been ordered into the incident. Koraput MP Jayaram Pangi has been under the scanner, as he reportedly tried to shield the main accused earlier, who is also his relative.
Itishree hailed from Delang in Puri district. She had joined work at the U.P. School in Tikiri in 2011. She did not enjoy good rapport with Netrasen Dandasena, the School Inspector and even lodged a sexual harassment complaint against Netrasen Dandasena three months ago.
She was initially threatened to withdraw her complaint. When she refused, she was set on fire by an unidentified man while she was taking rest at her house on Sunday night. The School Inspector, who was suspended following the incident, is still absconding, while the District Inspector (DI) and Police ASI have been suspended. The IIC of Tikiri Police Station, was suspended today.
