Hundreds of men, women and kids gheraoed the Kharavela Police Station in Bhubaneswar yesterday, demanding justice in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old youth, who was brutally attacked by 8-10 miscreants on the night of Diwali over bursting of crackers.
The youth, S Gopal Reddy, was admitted to the Capital Hospital earlier in a critical condition. He slipped into coma and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. The FIR was filed on November 3, but no action was taken till the victim’s death.

The residents of the slum, to which Gopal Reddy belonged, had blocked the Janpath for hours and demanded immediate action against the accused. DCP Nitinjeet Singh had to rush to the spot to pacify the angry demonstrators. Later, four people were taken into custody, while some others are still in the run.
