Around 70,000 people evacuated in Odisha
The Odisha Government has evacuated around 70,000 people so far from the areas that are likely to be hit by Cyclone Hudhud. Maximum number of 30,000 people were shifted from Gajapati district, while 13,282 people were moved to safe location in Koraput district.
Around 8,000 people were evacuated in Ganjam, followed by 6,000 in Malkangiri and 2,000 in Rayagada. In Banda Ghati, the administration is having a tough time to convince the tribe to move to safer location. Only 1,000 out of 5,000 Banda tribe have been evacuated so far.
The Hudhud has already triggered heavy rains in Koraput, Gajapati, Malkangiri and Ganjam districts. Gusty winds at a speed of 40-50 km per hour are blowing in these districts. In addition, many other parts of South and Coastal Odisha are witnessing rains. Power supply has been disrupted in almost all parts of South Odisha.
