A Tribute to Abani Boral – Teachers’ Leader
Odisha mourned the death of Professor Abani Boral, the man who gave a new dimension to the teachers’ movement in Odisha. He was an eminent Educationist and contributed significantly to the cause of the teachers. Apart from that he also served as the Secretary of CPI.
Abani Boral died at the age of 70 on November 7. He is survived by his wife Prof Adarmani Baral, son Abhas Kumar Baral and two daughters, Arati and Ahuti. He had been ill for a long time. He was rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after complaining of a chest pain. However, he was declared brought dead at the hospital.
Prof. Boral played a key role in getting the genuine rights of the teachers fulfilled with his relentless efforts for the past 44 years. He personally made sure that their grievances are properly addressed despite the bureaucratic hurdles. Abani Boral was a well-known writer and good orator. He also edited CPI’s Weekly, ‘Nua Duniya’.
Odisha Governor Dr SC Jamir, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Assam Governor JB Patnaik, PCC President Jayadev Jena, former PCC President Niranjan Patnaik, CPI State Secretary Dibakar Nayak and leaders from all other parties such as BJP, BJD and Congress have condoled Professor Boral’s death.
