Three arrested for Online Threats to All-Girls Rock Band

TNI Bureau: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested three persons for giving online threats to the all-girls rock band. A case has been filed under Section 66 (A) of Information Technology ACT against the accused. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the arrests and extended his support for the Kashmiri girls, who were forced to quit their performance after Fatwa issued by Muslim clerics.

Police arrested Irshad Ahmad Chara, resident of S D Colony in Batamaloo, Tariq Khan from Bijbehara and Rameez Shah from Ganderbal in central Kashmir on Wednesday night. They police were tracking down the Internet Protocol addresses of 26 users to arrest more in connection with the case.

Director General of Police Ashok Prasad has ordered more police patrolling across the valley. The strong action came after a member of Pragaash (girl rock band) was forced to quit the band following Fatwa by Kashmir’s grand mufti. The Muslim clerics said that singing is an un-Islamic.
