TNI Bureau: As expected, Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav has been elected unopposed to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj constituency in by-poll.

The walkover was expected after major opposition parties refused to field their candidates against Dimple. Even on Friday the independent candidates have withdrawn their nominations.

Dimple was formally declared the winner from the constituency on Saturday. The by-poll was scheduled on June 24.

Dimple’s victory was clear when Congress first announced that it would skip the election. Later, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which was forced out of power by SP, also decided not to field any candidate against the CM’s wife.
