India asks UN to end “Mission Kashmir”

TNI Bureau: India has formally approached the United Nations with a request to close down its mission in Jammu & Kashmir. India said that the mission has outlived its utility and th resources should be used elsewhere.

The United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) has been posted in Jammu & Kashmir since 1949. It has a staff of 112, which includes 25 international civilians, 48 local people and 39 military observers.

India made the request during a debate on the UN’s peacekeeping operations around the world.
