Helpline for Delhi Women delayed, to be Operational Today

Date:

TNI Bureau: The new help line number for women, which was slated to be launched on Monday morning, is expected to be operational from evening. The move was delayed due to technical glitches, sources said. After Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit gave her nod to the move, the government ad said that it is now functional, but it was not working.

After the launch of the number, women in distress can dial CM’s helpline number 181 to get better assistance and protection.

Since the anti-rape protests rocked the national capital after the brutal gangrape of 23-year-old para-medical student, the move may stop the outrage. Sheila had announced to make the helpline number operational for women in distress after the students and women staged agitation in front of her residence and at India Gate demanding justice for the victim.

Sheila said that she would personally deal with the matter if the complaint registered by the victim or the women in distress and the CM office will provide them assistance.
