TNI Bureau: Former CBI director Uma Shankar Mishra’s startling revelation might put the government in trouble that the investigation into several high profile cases were done not strongly under political pressure. He said that political pressure is there when the agency probes into some political bigwigs’ cases.

Mishra was also backed by another former CBI director Joginder Singh, who is one of his predecessors. Mishra said that he had faced political pressure during his tenure when he was probing BSP chief Mayawati in a disproportionate assets case.

He also said that the officers, who are probing SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, will also face political pressure.

Mishra also said that the progress reports of such cases are at times influenced by the top government officials. Since CBI is directly under the government, the agency is always under pressure if they are probing the high profile cases.

“But always a CBI director and the organisation, as I said, the accountability is to the court and the court alone. There is no third party here.”

“We are extremely careful in taking decisions and after taking the decision we have to put it to the court also. Court may give stricture, you may lose your job if you do something wrong. So keeping all things in view decisions are taken,” he told the Headlines Today on Thursday.

The revelation by two former directors of the CBI made it clear that CBI is being used as a weapon of the government to suppress the facts. “The Aam Aadmi” formed by anti-graft crusader Arvind Kejriwal will definitely speak on the issue. The team has been demanding to bring CBI under the purview of Jan Lokpal Bill, which the government has been showing no interest.
