Modi visits Vizag, announces Rs 1,000 Crore Assistance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Cyclone-ravaged Visakhapatnam (Vizag) and took stock of the situation. He was accompanied by Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister Aviation Minister A Gajapathi Raju. He announced an interim assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for Andhra Pradesh and assured more help after the final survey.
The PM hailed the bravery of people of Vizag and other parts of Andhra Pradesh they showed while facing the Cyclone Hudhud and explained how technology played a key role in keeping people aware well in advance and minimizing the casualties. The PM also made an aerial survey of the devastation caused in Odisha.
Narendra Modi also announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the families of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for all injured. He has assured all central support in rebuilding the ravaged regions.
