TNI Bureau: In a huge setback for Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, the CBI told the Supreme Court on Thursday that his conviction under Arms Act in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and his six-year jail term should be upheld.

The actor was convicted by a Special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court for illegally possessing a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle in 2007 following his arrest in connection with 1993 Mumbai blasts case, but he was acquitted of terror charges.

He was sentenced to six years in jail, but he was granted bail in November 2007 after he approached the apex court challenging his conviction in August 2007.

The CBI said that Dutt’s conviction under Arms Act and his six-year sentence should be upheld. However, the investigating agency did not challenge the TADA court order that acquitted him of terror charges.

Earlier, the court had asked Dutt about his contact with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is the most wanted for serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in 1993. His lawyer replied Dutt had only attended a dinner in Dubai hosted by Dawood before the Mumbai terror attack.
