Government’s Twitter Ban includes Two Journalists

TNI Bureau: In a stern action against the internet users spreading inflammatory contents on social networking sites following the ethnic violence in the north of the country, the government has blocked over 20 Twitter user-accounts.

The crackdown also targeted two prominent journalists, a nephew of Congress MP from Rajasthan, banning their twitter accounts.

The government had asked Twitter to remove the hate content from the site that fuelled panic amongst northeast people. The authorities found at least 300 URLs responsible for disseminating hate messages and hurt the northeast people sentiments.

The sites including YouTube and Facebook pages, as well as 30 Twitter URLs and 11 blogger sites allegedly spread “inflammatory and harmful content.
