Mumbai Violence: Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik transferred

Date:

TNI Bureau: Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik was finally transferred following the allegation that he could not handle the August 11 violence at Azad Maidan.

Satyapal Singh has been appointed as the police commissioner of Mumbai.

Maharashtra home department had proposed the transfer of Patnaik after facing heat from the Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the violence that left two people dead and over 50 were injured.

The MNS had been demanding immediate resignation of home minister RR Patil and police commissioner Arup Patnaik. However, Patnaik had defended saying that he had handled the August 11 violence.
