Jagan Mohan’s YSR Congress sweeps Andhra Bypolls

Date:

TNI Bureau: As expected earlier, jailed Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress has swept the bypolls in Andhra Pradesh. Jagan’s party is leading in 15 out of 18 assembly seats and also taken a clear lead in the Nellore Lok Sabha seat.

The results came as a rude shock to the Congress Party, which held 16 out of 18 seats earlier. The party had to settle for just two assembly seats. The TRS won one seat.

In Nellore Lok Sabha constituency, Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy of YSR Congress was leading by over 50,000 votes over former Union Minister T Subbarami Reddy of the Congress party.

The negative campaign, CBI raids and his subsequent arrest, did not dampen Jagan Mohan’s spirit, as he garnered support of the people through His mother YS Vijayamma and sister Sharmila.
