Himachal Pradesh records 75% Voter Turnout

Date:

TNI Bureau: Himachal Pradesh recorded a 75 per cent voter turnout in today’s assembly polls, leaving the poll pundits guessing about the results. This is the first time Himachal has witnessed such a large voter turnout in its history. The previous best was 74.51% in 2003.

Polling began for all 68 seats at 8 AM and it picked up as the day progressed. The polling was completely peaceful and there were no reports of any rigging or violent incidents. The counting of votes will be held on December 20 after the Gujarat elections.

Around 459 candidates, including 34 women are on the fray this time. 105 independent candidates, mostly rebels from the BJP and Congress would determine the fate of many candidates. The assembly polls 2012 is crucial for both BJP and Congress, as Himachal Pradesh has never repeated a government since 1977.
