Jayalalithaa granted Bail, SC stays Sentencing till Dec 18

JayalalithaaIn a big relief to AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, the Supreme Court has granted her interim bail and stayed her sentencing till December 18. The apex court also directed Jayalalithaa’s party and supporters not to trigger any violence in Tamil Nadu.

The Supreme Court made it clear to Jayalalithaa that any law and order breakdown in Tamil Nadu won’t be tolerated. Jaya had volunteered to be kept in house confinement for 2-3 months while seeking the bail. Jayalalithaa’s former aide Sasikala and her relatives VN Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi were also granted bail by the SC.

The court has asked Jayalalithaa’s lawyers to submit all paperwork related to the case by December 18. Jaya has been in jail since September 27 after she was convicted in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case of 1996. She was sentenced to four years in jail and had to forgo the Chief Minister’s position.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK cadres are celebrating across Tamil Nadu soon after the Supreme Court granted bail to Jayalalithaa. They expressed confidence that their leader will be exonerated by the top court soon.
