Sridevi has recently slapped a legal notice on filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma (RGV) for using her name as the title of his upcoming film Sridevi. Reportedly, the film is about a teenage boy’s infatuation with a much older woman.
The first look of the film was recently launched with a poster showing a woman flaunting her midriff in a saree while a teen age boy looks lecherously at her. Needless to say, that the woman in the poster isn’t actress Sridevi.
Reports suggest that the yesteryear bollywood diva fears that RGV’s film with the title of Sridevi may misled the audiences into believing that the film is actually about the real Sridevi.
Responding to the controversy, RGV posted on his Facebook page, “In the legal notice sent to me, there seems to be an apprehension that the film Sridevi is based on a crush I personally had for Sridevi in my college years.” However, RGV clarifies that the story of his film is about a teenager’s infatuation with a 25-year-old woman.

He further asserts that the woman in the film doesn’t play an actress nor is the teenager, a director.
However, this is not the first time that film titles have landed its makers in a controversy. There have been several instances when the name of a film has caused uproar.
In recent past, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela was changed to Goliyon Ki Raas Leela – Ram Leela, following complaint about the title – Ram Leela hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan’s Billu Barber ran into trouble for hurting the sentiments of the barber community and thousands of hair-dressers across India. Later the film was releases with the title “Billu”.
