TNI Bureau: Former Indian cricketer and Rebel Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan has received temporary relief from the Gujarat High Court in the Vadodara land dispute case. The court on Monday granted him four weeks to pursue his claim for the disputed land under a Gujarat government policy.
During the hearing, Pathan’s counsel informed the division bench headed by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal that his client was seeking allotment of the land under a state policy that benefits sportspersons, including cricketers. The court agreed to grant additional time to pursue the claim.
However, the High Court cautioned Pathan that any further delay in vacating the land could result in higher damages. The court observed that he has been occupying the plot since 2014 despite the allotment decision not being in his favour.
Chief Justice Agarwal noted that Pathan had continued to remain on the land for years without paying any amount and said that damages for the period of occupation would have to be taken into account. The court made it clear that the longer the matter remains unresolved, the greater the financial liability could become for Pathan.
